Liverpool fans are none too pleased here in the Football Transfer Tavern after hearing the claim coming from Metro who have reported that Steven Gerrard has admitted he might just regret not leaving the Reds and joining Real Madrid.

As one of our punters notes, not only did Gerrard have the chance to join Chelsea a couple of times, he was also heavily linked with Real Madrid and a host of other club so good was the former England skipper during the peak of his career.

Despite all these links, one thing has remained the same – Gerrard has always been loyal to Liverpool – but it seems he might be regretting that if these words are anything to go by.

Gerrard claimed: ‘I’ve had a couple of options throughout my career to go to Real Madrid but I’ve resisted temptation because of the big connection I have to my home town club in Liverpool.

‘It may be something I regret further down the line for not challenging myself and having a change of scenery in a different country.’

In better news for Liverpool fans however, Gerrard made sure to admit just how much he loved his home town club and added: ‘But I would have had an even bigger regret to leave the club I love which is Liverpool Football Club.’
