BBC Sport have Liverpool fans looking up with keen faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they carry quotes from Raheem Sterling – who explains just why he did not take the new deal on the table from the Reds.
Despite being offered £100,000 per week by the club, Sterling decided that was not for him and while he has not come out and said he wants to leave the club, we think this could well be the start of him forcing an exit from Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Sterling seems to want to play football at the highest level and we are not really convinced that club is Liverpool – but despite all the backlash, the player himself seems offended at claims he is only keen on making more money.
Sterling claimed: ‘It’s never been about money. I talk about winning trophies throughout my career. That’s all I talk about.’
