Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking over towards the bar and want to hear what our landlord has just read in the Daily Star.
He tells us that the publication has claimed Reds’ midfield star Jordan Henderson could well be in line for a new deal at Anfield, after impressing in their most successful season for a while.
The England international has been receiving more and more plaudits in recent months and we think that a new and improved deal is something that should certainly be offered to the former Sunderland player.
Liverpool may be the outsiders when it comes to the title race, but they certainly seem likely to finish in the top four, and now Brendan Rodgers has clearly decided to further plan for the future.
The future of Luis Suarez is of course something that the Anfield faithful may not be totally comfortable with. But our landlord seems to think that by securing other players’ futures at the club and really showing that a dynasty is being built, Suarez will once again choose to reject the advances of other clubs in the summer.
Rodgers gushed about Henderson, who has two years left on his current deal and claimed: “He still has all his best years ahead of him and you can see his growth and development.
“He will want to get better and I’m sure it is in the interests of the club to tie him down.”
