Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are left stunned after The Mirror revealed that Dejan Lovren’s future at Liverpool is in doubt after his team-mates lost faith in his ability after a shaky start.
The Croatian international centre back has lost his place in the team and is likely to be benched against Manchester United at Old Trafford after failing to live up to his £20 million price tag.
Lovren has only been at the club for six months now and his contribution and quality is already being questioned.
Despite starting against FC Basel in the Champions League on Tuesday night, it is expected that Kolo Toure will replace him after returning from injury.
Toure picked up Liverpool’s Player of the Month award in November and after recovering from injury, he is set to go straight back into the starting eleven.
Concerns over Lovren’s long-term capabilities arose after his shambolic display against Crystal Palace with the Reds going down 3-1 a few weeks back.
Following his performance at Selhurst Park he was dropped for the next four matches.
Lovren insists that he is not getting enough protection from the Reds midfield but critics disagree and feel he has struggled to make the step up to life at Liverpool.
