Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at home to Napoli last night means that there is still work to do for the Reds if they are to advance from their Champions League group.
That result, combined with Red Bull Salzburg’s 4-1 win away to Genk, leaves Jurgen Klopp’s team top of Group E but only one point ahead of Napoli and three ahead of the Austrians, who provide the opposition on the final matchday on December 10th. [via UEFA.com]
A draw in Salzburg would be enough for the Reds to reach the knockout stage but, having eked out a 4-3 home win over Jesse Marsch’s side in October, a low-scoring one-goal loss or a greater margin of defeat would knock Liverpool out unless Napoli lose at home to already-eliminated Genk (as per UEFA.com).
Salzburg came back from 3-0 down to draw level at Anfield before Mohamed Salah eventually won it for Liverpool (as per UEFA.com), while the Austrian club have scored 16 goals in their five group matches to date, with eight of those coming from the tournament’s second-top goalscorer Erling Haaland.
