If the reports from A Bola (via Sport Witness) are to be believed, Manchester United are close to signing Bruno Fernandes, beating their rivals Manchester City to the player’s much-wanted signature. But, of course, there’s a catch – the reported fee has soared as high as €70m-€80m (~£62m – £71m) and it has their fans scratching their heads all over again. They were quick to tell the club what they feel about this transfer on social media.
Bruno Fernandes is closer to #mufc than Man City. The latter have made a €55m + players offer but Sporting aren't convinced by it. United's offer is expected to be €70m-€80m #mulive [a bola via sportwitness]

It wouldn’t really be the first time they overpaid for a player they were chasing because of a bidding war, as the fans were quick to note in the tweets, comparing this transfer to the one of Fred. Some of them seem to believe that if this fee is real and the player would only come if United were to pay that much, the player might not even be worth it after all.
Just to put things into perspective a bit, Bruno Fernandes’ estimated market value is £31.50m, according to Transfermarkt, which would indeed prove the Red Devils would be massively overpaying their target once again. But, these figures are all estimations and as soon as the player is wanted by multiple big fish, as the same source is implying, his price automatically skyrockets.
You can see the fans’ reactions and what they think of the money being thrown around recklessly in the tweets below:
Hmmmmmm that price tag, well we are going back to Fred’s situation last year

Had a great season with Sporting, not sure about the price though. I’d happily have him in our ranks though, we’ve always had a decent Portuguese intake apart from Bebe
