Make or break: These 2 Leeds United players seriously need to impress during pre-season

The Leeds fans in the Transfer Tavern tonight will be expecting a push for the play-offs next season.

Thomas Christiansen finds himself in quite a good position as the new Leeds United manager, taking over a team who only missed out on a play-off spot by five points and who are very capable of going that one step further this season. With a solid squad and already a few good signings made, Christiansen will most likely now be looking at players who he may need to leave behind in his ventures, and those players only have pre-season to impress as their last chance.

Traditionally, Leeds are a top-flight club and to get back to the Premier League, Christiansen will need to be tough on those who don’t perform. Having brought in new players in just about every position so far, this window, many within the Leeds ranks will be looking to fight for their spot. With that being said, here are two Leeds United players who seriously need to impress during pre-season.

Marcus Antonsson

Having scored just the one goal in 16 appearances for Leeds last season, it can be argued that Marcus Antonsson shouldn’t even be considered a back-up option for the club. When you compare his stats to those of Chris Wood, who managed 27 goals and four assists in the league last season, there is no way Antonsson is getting anywhere near the first team. He needs to find some sort of form in pre-season or else he could find himself warming the bench all season long.

Rob Green

Given that Felix Wiedwald has just signed for Leeds for Werder Bremen, it isn’t looking like Rob Green will be getting much first team football this season unless he has an unbelievable pre-season. Having only kept 15 clean sheets in 46 games last season, it may already be too late for the former England international but if it’s not, pre-season is the 36-year-old’s last chance at any first team football in the league next season.
