Man City fans know that a new defender is coming in this summer seeing as Vincent Kompany is leaving the club after 11 years. Reports from The Daily Mail have claimed that Harry Maguire is one of those being looked at as his long-term replacement, but the Citizens have been quick to call for another defender, Matthijs De Ligt.
Man City will press ahead with attempts to sign Harry Maguire after confirming Kompany’s departure.
Maguire is Pep’s №1 choice to replace Kompany and the City manager even approached the Leicester defender on the pitch at the Etihad to express his admiration.

De Ligt (linked with the Premier League champions by Mirror Sport via Bleacher Report at the start of the month) is the dream for fans of all top clubs. At the age of just 19-years-old, he has already proven himself to be one of the best defenders in the world, and wherever he ends up you just know that success will follow him. On the other hand, Maguire is made to look quite silly by the talented Dutchman, even though he is a classy operator and a top centre-back in his own right.
The two of them will be going head-to-head in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals in a matter of weeks, but the real battle between De Ligt and Maguire on a personal level is the potential move to Manchester City. The chances (per Sky Sports) are that De Ligt will follow his Ajax teammate and countryman, Frenkie De Jong, to Barcelona, but the Man City fans are desperate to turn his head and ditch the Maguire rumours.

Yep have been saying all season. I like Mags & yep its going to break the bank but Liverpool paid 75M for a defender and I think City will have to do the same.

The Citizens would much rather see De Ligt come in than Maguire, and who can blame them? But should the Dutchman snub them, the Leicester man is a suitable second choice.
