Manchester United and Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are hit with the painful news from the Daily Star that Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos is set to sign a new contract.
The 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu during the New Year with Arsenal and Liverpool also showing an interest.
However despite this strong surge of interest from England, it seems as though the Spanish international will be staying in his homeland.
Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti put an end to the speculation and said he was close to signing a new deal.
He said: “He is a player who is always motivated and focused.
“His importance for the team grows bigger with each day that passes and I don’t think that he’s worried about his contract renewal.
“That is not my concern nor is it my area of expertise.
“There are players who wear the same jersey their whole careers. That can be said about Casillas, Cristiano, as well as for Ramos.”
This means the English quartet will have to look elsewhere, with Arsenal, Liverpool and United desperately searching for defensive reinforcements.
Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal seems to have been out of luck in recent weeks as it is beginning to emerge that Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels is staying in Germany.
