Manchester United fans are excitedly gearing up for the January transfer window in the Transfer Tavern, declaring that the latest rumoured target would make them Premier League title favourites.
Sport Bild declared over the weekend that the Red Devils are continuously scouting Bayer Leverkusen’s Hakan Calhanoglu, most recently watching the Turkish international star in a 4-4 Champions League draw with Roma.
The 21-year-old, likened to Arsenal star Mesut Ozil, is reportedly available for a fee of £28.9m in January despite being tied-down to a four-year deal with the Bundesliga side.
Whilst Calhanoglu would be cup-tied for European competition, the attacking-midfielder would provide a major attacking boost to United and their Premier League aspirations; though title-rivals Arsenal are also said to be keen.
Whether United can complete this deal in January remains to be seen but negotiations are likely to be opened either way, with Louis Van Gaal’s side looking to steal a march on their rivals if the player is to remain in Germany until the end of the season.
