Man United could have recently sealed their most important deal in years

The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Taven believe Jose Mourinho really can become the man to deliver a first Premier League title after a strong start to the campaign.

Indeed, life is good amongst our resident Red Devils and the signings of both Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukau look to have had a transformative effect on the squad.

Still, those propping up our bar believe United have only recently struck what could be their most important deal of 2017 recently.

And no, it’s not Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

According to the Daily Mirror, the club have activated a clause that sees Luke Shaw extend his deal at the club for another 12 months. While the England international has suffered some sour times at Old Trafford, few would doubt the quality he’s capable of.

We’ve seen just how much Henrikh Mkhitaryan – another player criticised by Mourinho last season –  has improved this time around and Shaw is thought to have impressed the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ in his attempts to recover from his latest injury.

This summer, more than ever, has shown just how important full-backs are in the modern game. The ridiculous fees splashed out for top operators in those berths and the very best in Europe often make a good team great.

Though Daley Blind is a solid enough option on the left-hand side of defence, Shaw at his best gives United so much more balance. Able to operate as either a more standard left-back or even a wing-back, the former Southampton man could eventually prove to be a relative snip, when you consider Kyle Walker went for around £50m.

The fact he’s been handed a new deal would suggest Mourinho DOES have faith in a player who could give Man United what they’re missing, a top quality left-back.
