Manchester United: Red Devils let Dean Henderson stay at Sheffield United for rest of the season

Manchester United have agreed a deal with Sheffield United for Dean Henderson to remain at Bramall Lane for the rest of the season.

According to The Guardian, the two clubs have reached an agreement for Henderson to finish the 2019/20 Premier League season in Yorkshire.

Earlier this week, ESPN revealed that the Red Devils are ready to offer the goalkeeper a new contract. Football reporter Dave Hytner added that, while there are still some details that need fine-tuning, it is expected to be completed before the deadline of June 23.

Henderson has spent the past two seasons on loan at the south Yorkshire outfit, helping Chris Wilder’s side get promoted from the Championship and putting in a shift between the sticks as the Blades have exceeded all expectations to charge up to the top seven in the Premier League this season.

He has played in 27 games in the English top flight, keeping 10 clean sheets, and conceded just 22 goals so far (Transfermarkt).

Which keeper should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer choose?

In contrast, Solskjaer’s first-choice keeper David de Gea has made 29 league appearances this term for United, managing just eight clean sheets and conceding 30 goals (Transfermarkt).

Despite his performances so far for Sheffield United, it appears that the Old Trafford board are happy for Henderson to stay out on loan, and he will not face his parent club in a few weeks’ time under the terms of his agreement. He is currently valued at £13m via Transfermarkt.

The two sides are in the middle of a battle for Champions League qualification, with Solskjaer’s team only two points clear of their close rivals.

Admittedly, it makes perfect sense for the 23-year-old to complete the remainder of the campaign in Yorkshire, as it will only serve to benefit his parent club in the long-term. It is likely that he will gain valuable experience as the Blades head into the final stages of the competition, given the fact he is a regular starter for Wilder’s men.

Man United fans, do you think the board have made the right decision to let Henderson stay at Bramall Lane? Let us know in the comments below!
