The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern want to see French winger, Anthony Martial, get the number nine shirt at Old Trafford. The Frenchman was given the number nine shirt in his debut season with the club but had it taken off of him when Zlatan Ibrahimovic arrived last season. Despite Romelu Lukaku currently donning the shirt, fans want to see Martial claim it back now Zlatan has left the club.
The United fans propping up our bar all love their French star, Anthony Martial and they want to see him bombing down the Old Trafford touchline with the number nine on his back, as he did in his debut season. When the youngster signed for United from Monaco, he was instantly compared to Thierry Henry because of his pace, calmness and eye for goal, although his career has stalled somewhat under Jose Mourinho.
Martial faces stiff competition for a starting role both at club level and internationally. In Manchester, Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez all rival Martial for a starting role, whilst for France, he has to compete with Antoine Griezmann, Thomas Lemar, Kylian Mbappe and Kingsley Coman. Despite his competition, Martial still finds a way to shine and is likely to be a part of Les Bleus’ World Cup squad, United fans will be hoping he can have a successful World Cup and come back fit and firing in Manchester United’s number nine shirt.
