Manchester United: Fans slam Jesse Lingard as transfer news emerges

Jesse Lingard scored his first goal in the Premier League this season as Manchester United beat Leicester City at the King Power Stadium to qualify for the Champions League.

Replacing Mason Greenwood, substitute Lingard stole the ball from Kasper Schmeichel to put the game beyond the Foxes (BBC) deep into stoppage time.

This marked the Man United academy graduate’s first league goal since 2018, when he scored twice in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first game in charge against Cardiff, which is a shocking return for a forward player.

According to Manchester Evening News, as per @utdreport, the Red Devils are ready to let him leave if a suitable bid arrives in the summer. Solskjaer wants to get rid of the deadwood as soon as possible and Lingard is widely expected to leave.

The Athletic revealed earlier this year that Man United will sell him if they receive the right offer. He has been given plenty of chances by the club legend to prove himself but has struggled for consistency, as he has only scored three goals all season.

Lingard last signed an extension at Old Trafford back in 2017 and the club have shown no signs of offering him a new deal any time soon.

Naturally, many United fans slammed the “clown” on social media, with one fan tweeting that he is “awful” and “absolute rubbish” in reference to his poor form.

Scroll through some of the scathing reactions so far…

Scores his first goal in the Premier League all season and suddenly he's "world-class"… Let's be real, he's awful, in fact just absolute rubbish. Get rid of him, as much as it pains me to say it, his time is up. Pce Jlingz
