Manchester United: Fans rage as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not satisfied with Brandon Williams

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to sign Nuno Mendes in the summer as he is unconvinced by Brandon Williams’ performances, according to reports.

Solskjaer is not satisfied with Williams’ displays and wants to bring in a new left-back to compete with Luke Shaw.

According to O Jogo, as cited by Sport Witness (via @ManUnitedZone_), Man United have been monitoring Sporting Lisbon defender Mendes for several months and are impressed by his attacking and defensive output.

Williams has stepped up in Shaw’s absence on several occasions so far, playing 15 games in the Premier League this season, scoring one goal and registering 1.1 tackles per game, via WhoScored.

The teenager, who can play in the midfield as well as in the defence, has made more than 30 appearances in his debut season in the first team.

It is worth pointing out he has received a lower WhoScored rating than Shaw this season, although there isn’t much between them. However, Shaw copped a fair amount of criticism for his lacklustre performance in the 2-1 FA Cup win over Norwich earlier this year.

Unsurprisingly, lots of United fans were perplexed by Solskjaer’s decision, with many directing their ire at Shaw. One supporter slammed the “embarrassing” ex-Southampton defender as “injury prone” in reference to his extensive injury record while another slammed the 25-year-old as “technically inept”.
