Manchester United: Marcos Rojo’s decision to stay in Argentina divides Red Devils

Manchester United have tried to get rid of Marcos Rojo multiple times but have been unable to sell him so far.

Their bad luck may now be about to change, though, as Rojo has reportedly made up his mind about his future.

According to Fox Sports, as relayed by Sport Witness, the Red Devils veteran wants to remain in Argentina. Estudiantes manager Leandro Desabato has claimed that Rojo wishes to stay at his boyhood club.

The defender moved to Estudiantes de La Plata after agreeing a loan in January, as he has fallen out of favour with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He returned to his homeland on loan until the end of June but has only played once for Los Pincharratas as a result of a recurring injury.

Despite this setback, the 30-year-old is desperate to stay in Argentina as he will not be a part of Solskjaer’s plans for the future. However, just like many clubs around the world, Estudiantes are facing financial repercussions from the coronavirus crisis and will only be able to afford a loan deal.

Who should the Red Devils sell?

This has become a sticking point, as Man United are demanding £12m for a permanent move amid interest from Boca Juniors (via El Dia). The outlet reported that Rojo and his representatives must push for a move if he is to leave Old Trafford in the summer. As it stands, the Red Devils may be prepared to cut their losses, as his contract is set to expire in a year anyway.

Solskjaer is facing an exodus of defenders as Chris Smalling and Phil Jones could also be on their way out the door. The latter has only played two games in the Premier League all season.

Unsurprisingly, loads of United fans reacted to the “ruthless” transfer update on social media, with one supporter tweeting that the Argentina defender is “better than Jones,” while another feels that he is “stealing a living” due to his lengthy injury history.

Have a read through the mixed reactions so far…

We don't even want him to return lol

We should let Boca juniors take him for free

Probably best to move him on but I’ll always feel like we didn’t get what we could from him because of his injuries. Rojo-Bailly could have been a vicious long term CB pairing

Don’t need him anyway really.
