Man Utd add former Premier League flop to striker shortlist

Manchester United’s hunt for a new striker is no secret. The current options — Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee — have both endured disappointing campaigns at Old Trafford, struggling to live up to their price tags.

Højlund has scored just four Premier League goals all season, while Zirkzee has managed only three. For a duo that cost over £108 million combined, it’s an alarming return for a club aiming to compete at the highest level.

Among those linked with a summer switch to United is Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap — also reportedly on Chelsea’s radar — who has managed 12 top-flight goals in an impressive solo campaign for a side already relegated.

Another name in the frame is Nigerian international Victor Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli. Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha is also said to be on the club’s radar — and may already be edging closer to a move.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United are “leading the race” for Cunha, with personal terms now under discussion. Romano added that the Red Devils are “aware” of other interested clubs and noted the 25-year-old’s £62.5 million release clause.

Now, Manchester United are reportedly eyeing yet another striker — Fiorentina’s Moise Kean.

The Italian international has found his best form in Florence, scoring 23 goals across all competitions this season following a £15 million move from Juventus last summer. According to Foot Mercato, United have “flagged his name” for a possible summer move and are keeping close tabs on his situation.

Kean, 25, has a £42 million release clause in his contract — valid from this summer — and is under contract until 2029. While his career has been marked by ups and downs, his current form suggests he may be entering his prime.

He previously impressed during a loan spell at Paris Saint-Germain, netting 17 goals in the 2020/21 season, and broke through at Juventus in 2018/19, scoring seven times in just 17 league appearances. That promising run prompted Everton to pay £25 million for him, but he struggled in the Premier League, managing only two goals in 33 league games.

Juventus brought him back in 2021, but inconsistency continued to plague his time in Turin.

Now, however, his resurgence at Fiorentina may finally signal a turning point. If United do make a move, they would be getting a player who appears ready to fulfill the potential that once made him one of Europe’s most talked-about young strikers — and potentially offer far more firepower than Højlund or Zirkzee have managed this season.
