One of the main debates still flying around the Transfer Tavern currently is whether or not Manchester United’s season can be deemed a success.

Whilst Jose Mourinho has bought two trophies (and a Community Shield) as well as Champions League football to Old Trafford in his first season in charge of United, many of the Red Devils in the Tavern can’t help but feel that they should have performed better in the league.

In contrast to this, our landlord has been quick to point out that over a sixty game season with some of the injuries that occurred in the United squad – a bunch of trophies is a fantastic return for Mourinho and his men.

However, that’s where our landlord’s positive switch on United’s season ends and he has been very frank in what Mourinho needs to do in order to compete on all fronts next season.

He believes that United need to act quickly in the transfer market and conclude their business early – he especially believes this needs to be done in the middle of the park with United seemingly coming up short in midfield at the back end of last season.

With that said, our landlord has outlined these TWO midfielders that United should make a move for this summer.

James Rodriguez

It’s a transfer rumour that has cooled among the punters in the Transfer Tavern but our landlord believes this move is still in the pipeline and feels Jose Mourinho needs to push through this move in order to show his intentions within the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils in the Tavern would love to see James at Old Trafford and with no definitive number ten in the United squad, it could well be the move of the summer.

Of course, James’ arrival may mean some players have to leave Old Trafford and the talk in the Tavern is that Wayne Rooney will be the man to make way should the Colombian join.

Justin Kluivert

Although Mourinho seemingly pulled the young Ajax winger to one side at the end of the Europa League final, it is not really known what was said to the 18-year-old.

Many punters in the Tavern believe he told the son of Dutch legend, Patrick, that he would have one more season at Ajax before the United boss made a move for him but our landlord would not be surprised to see Mourinho spark a surprise and make a move for Kluivert this summer.

He is, of course, one of Europe’s most exciting young talents, and a big move almost seems inevitable eventually.
