Manchester United: Red Devils unlikely to go in for Ismaila Sarr this month

Manchester United are not set to dip back into the transfer market to strengthen their squad before the domestic transfer window deadline on October 16.

The Red Devils had been heavily linked with a potential move for Watford forward Ismaila Sarr, and they had a loan offer with the option to buy at £25m turned down by the Championship club on transfer deadline day, according to Manchester Evening News.

Watford were only interested in sanctioning Sarr’s departure from the club if it was on a permanent deal, and the 22-year-old winger is valued at £45m by the Hornets. The forward only arrived at the club in the summer of 2019 and it is unlikely he will now move to Old Trafford, as per Manchester Evening News.

Indeed, despite the Hertfordshire club being relegated, his performances prompted Old Trafford legend Gary Neville to endorse him as a possible signing for the Red Devils.

United had been looking to improve their options in the wide attacking areas, but their attempts to bring in both Jadon Sancho and Ousmane Dembele proved unsuccessful. Ole Gunnar Solskjær did eventually manage to secure a move for Edinson Cavani on transfer deadline to bolster his strike force.

Sarr could have been a good alternative to their main targets for Manchester United for the season, with the 22-year-old having impressed last term in a struggling Watford side. The winger managed to score five goals and register four assists, as well as creating nine big chances and averaging an 82% passing accuracy, as per Sofascore.

However, United are probably right not to pursue a permanent move for Sarr at Watford’s £45m valuation. The winger would likely only have been a stop-gap unless he performed to an exceptional standard and United are better served reserving their funds to sign other players in January.
