Manchester City won their first trophy of the season when they beat Arsenal in the Carabao Cup at Wembley Stadium last weekend.
The Cityzens added another accolade to their large collection earned under Pep Guardiola and will be hopeful that this can give them the momentum to tackle the title race with the Gunners and snatch the Premier League title.
The January transfer window was pivotal for City as they secured the signings of winger Antoine Semenyo and centre-back Marc Guehi, both of whom have been greatly influential in their opening months at the Etihad.
However, there is still room for improvement to get back on their pedestal and dominate both domestically and on the European stage once again, with the summer transfer window offering the opportunity to further strengthen their squad.
The right-back role has been a glaringly obvious issue for City since Kyle Walker departed last summer, with the position being occupied by midfielder Matheus Nunes for the majority of the current campaign.
Indeed, Nunes has been strong in his performances in the converted role, though if the club is serious about competing again, it would be advantageous to not only have depth on the right flank but also a player who is naturally suited to the role.
According to TEAMtalk, Man City have held talks to sign Real Madrid star Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The publication claims that the Sky Blues have been keeping tabs on the full-back during his difficult debut campaign with Los Blancos and are interested in offering him a path back to the Premier League.
It is revealed that while Alexander-Arnold is keen to prove his doubters wrong in Spain, the club have frustrations with how his short tenure has transpired so far.
While no formal approach has been made, there have been talks between intermediaries, and City are continuing to monitor the situation ahead of the summer transfer window.
Should Man City sign Trent Alexander-Arnold?

This link will be an interesting one for fans of Premier League clubs, as Alexander-Arnold is renowned for being a key component in his boyhood club’s strong rivalry with Man City.
Despite a fractured departure from Liverpool, the right-back was one of the most respected and highly regarded players in his position in the Premier League, winning a Champions League and two Premier League titles with the Merseyside giants.
As a result, it would be a bold move for City to sign the 26-year-old – once hailed as a “huge talent” by Thomas Tuchel – in the summer, though he would bring a wealth of Premier League and Champions League experience, alongside his strong winning mentality and credentials as one of the most talented right-backs in the world.
There is no clear indication as to whether Madrid would be interested in parting ways with Alexander-Arnold in the summer, and no price tag has been determined since he joined on a free transfer in 2025.
All things considered, pursuing Alexander-Arnold would be a bold but calculated gamble for Manchester City.
While questions remain over his recent form in Spain, his proven quality in the Premier League suggests the potential reward far outweighs the risk if Guardiola can get the best out of him once again.
