There are some disappointed faces in the Football Transfer Tavern this morning after it is reported by Sky Sports that Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez has ended speculation about a possible switch to the Premier League after stating he remain a the Camp Nou this summer.
The Chilean international has had a frustrating season, on the fringes of Tito Vilanova’s side and that has brought about speculation that he may be ready to leave.
A whole host of European clubs were understood to preparing offers for the exciting attacking player including Manchester City.
But Barca have now told Sanchez that has a future with the club.
“The club has told me that they want me to stay and now I am more calm,” Sanchez told reporters.
“Everyone has said they want me to stay on and I am happy to be here for another season.
“Other clubs have shown interest in me, but I am happy to remain here and to earn a place in the team, which is most important.
“My intention has always been to stay and to do the best that I can.
“I have learned a lot of new things here. Next season I intend to be at my best. I have also learned a lot on the football front.”
Following 2011 and a £22.2 million move from Udinese, Sanchez has been a relative disappointment at the La Liga champions but he has been given another chance to prove his talents.
