Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are not shocked to hear reports in the London Evening Standard which say that Louis van Gaal is ‘crazy’ over Borussia Dortmund’s most wanted defender, Mats Hummels.
Countless times in Tavern it has been discussed how much van Gaal wants the German international or how they missed out on his signature.
And former Chelsea and AC Milan man Ruud Gullit has spoke out, pointing out his surprise that van Gaal hasn’t secured solid defenders by now.
“He was crazy about Hummels and wanted to buy him. So I would have bought Man United some good defenders because that was the weakest link. For me, that they did not was a surprise. Nevertheless, he gets results. The more results he gets, the more confidence they get and the better they will play.”
A key criticism for punters in the Tavern for Manchester United this season has been their defence, admittedly the constant change of system doesn’t help, but at times this season they have looked out of their depth and they have been bailed out by their keeper on plenty of occasions.
