It looks like Manchester United are making a last ditch attempt to hijack a transfer from fellow Premier League side Arsenal following the latest transfer update on Gabriel Magalhaes.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, via Sport Witness United have ‘come forward’ with a serious offer for the Brazilian centre-back who is valued at around £22 million.
Sky Sports have also backed this up by saying, ‘Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United have been in touch with Gabriel’s representatives today. Lille centre back available for £22m. Arsenal favourites to sign him. Napoli trying to convince him to join them with last minute offer.’
In Ligue 1 and the Champions League last season for Lille, the defender made 30 appearances, averaging 3.3 clearances, 1.8 tackles, and 1.2 interceptions per game, via WhoScored.
Gabriel’s statistics make for impressive reading and, at the age of just 22, he could be a solid defender. Utdreport have posted the update on Twitter, but most of the Red Devils fan base are not reacting well to the news because they believe it is too little too late as Arsenal are still favourites to sign him, with one saying that Ed Woodward ‘wants to trick’ supporters into thinking they actually tried to sign the player.
Here is what they said following the news:
