Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern continue to question Louis van Gaal’s transfer targets as the Daily Express revealed that he is keen to snap up AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong.
Van Gaal managed the former Manchester City hardman at the World Cup in Brazil and he looks desperate to have familiar faces around the club.
The Dutchman has rejected the opportunity of signing a new deal at Milan and it looks as though the Red Devils are keen to get him as a free agent in the summer.
De Jong is an attractive candidate as he has a good relationship with the manager, Premier League experience, and has also played in midfield with Daley Blind.
Van Gaal said: “I haven’t got what I need in this squad. I’m looking for balance and I need it in midfield.
“In the last few games I have played with Adnan Januzaj and Angel Di Maria in the midfield positions and Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie up front. That means you have four creative players so you have to look for some balance.”
AC Milan, now that they understand he is not signing a new deal, have turned their attention on Atletico Madrid star Mario Suarez and to make the move feasible, they will push de Jong out of the club.
