Angel Gomes is refusing to sign a new contract at Manchester United, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Gomes still has doubts about his chances of breaking into the first team and has rebuffed all efforts so far.
Chief football writer Samuel Luckhurst revealed the 19-year-old rejected United’s initial offer earlier this season as he is unsure about his future at the club.
The Red Devils submitted a new proposal to the teenager, but his representatives are reportedly ‘underwhelmed’ by the details.
Gomes has only made six appearances for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in all competitions so far and his contract is set to expire next month – meaning he will be able to leave Old Trafford as a free agent. The Englishman has been discouraged by the Norwegian’s interest in Jadon Sancho, Jack Grealish and Jude Bellingham.
La Liga outfit Barcelona have been scouting the youngster over the course of the season, with Frank Lampard’s Chelsea also keeping tabs on him, and so, if he does end up leaving, he will have no shortage of suitors at his disposal.
As expected, loads of United fans blasted the transfer update on social media. While most fans took aim at the academy graduate, with one pleading with the club to “get rid” of him and another labelling him a ‘BTEC J-Lingz’ (Jesse Lingard), one supporter directed his ire at Solskjaer, tweeting “Ole is a fraud.”
