Manchester United: Fans blast Victor Lindelof as transfer news emerges

Manchester United are looking to add a new centre-back to the squad to provide competition for Victor Lindelof, according to ESPN

Sources told the outlet there are concerns about Lindelof’s form after the Swedish international struggled for consistency throughout the season.

Club captain Harry Maguire is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first choice at the back but questions remain over who should play alongside the Englishman when football finally resumes.

Ever since he arrived at Old Trafford from Benfica for £31.5m back in 2017, the Swede has been tipped for greatness, but has suffered from a mixed bag of performances this campaign.

The 25-year-old has made 29 appearances in the Premier League for the club legend this season, making 0.5 blocks per game, averaging 0.7 interceptions, and, although he has completed 3.5 clearances on average, holds a low statistical rating of 6.67 via WhoScored.

In comparison, Eric Bailly has played in fewer games than his teammate, yet he has made 1.5 blocks on average, registered 1.5 interceptions, produced 3 clearances per game, and received a higher score of 7.07 per WhoScored.

Understandably, many United fans blasted Lindelof as the transfer news emerged, with a fan tweeting “Smalling is better,” and another pleading with Ed Woodward to “get him gone.” One supporter even dubbed him a “weak link.”
