Manchester United: Fans call for club to sign Maddison

After a fairly poor start to the season, which has seen Manchester United win just one of their opening four league games, supporters are already calling for the club to strengthen in January.

With a lack of creativity in the midfield, largely down to the poor form of Jesse Lingard – who hasn’t scored or assisted a single league goal in 2019 – the Red Devils are in desperate need of reinforcements.

One player who was heavily linked with a move to the north west throughout the recent transfer window was Leicester City’s James Maddison.

The Foxes No.10 impressed last season after his move from Norwich in the summer of 2018 – scoring seven and assisting seven goals – and has started this season promisingly by assisting two league goals in his opening four games.

His performances for Leicester earned him a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s senior England squad last week.

The player himself has made no secret in the fact that he wants to play at the highest level possible. “I want to play at the highest level my ability will allow me to,” Maddison was quoted as saying by Manchester Evening News.

And, it’s fair to say that his latest quotes have excited some Red Devils fans on Twitter.

One fan went as far as stating that James Maddison is the closest player to David Beckham right now. And, to be fair to the United supporter, he isn’t the only one to take up that view as football pundit Tony Cottee also compared the Leicester man to Beckham back in October of last year (Speaking on the Football Show, via Leicestershire Live).

Here’s what he had to say:

“He reminds me of David Beckham. If you watch him play, he runs like Beckham, he takes free-kicks like Beckham. He’s got great vision, good passer of the ball.”
