Manchester United are interested in signing Napoli’s Hirving Lozano this summer, according to Corriere dello Sport via ESPN Mexico.
Lozano moved to the San Paolo Stadium last year but has failed to make much of an impact at Napoli so far and, as per ESPN Mexico, there are doubts over his long-term future at the club.
The Italian outfit signed the Mexican from Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven for £34.2m in August, although he has struggled for consistency in his first season in Serie A, scoring just two goals and producing only one assist in 16 games in the league.
However, Ed Woodward is reportedly keen to bring the Mexico international to Old Trafford, as he has a huge following in his home country, and his high profile would present lucrative marketing opportunities for the Red Devils.
It is also worth remembering the 24-year-old enjoyed a prolific spell with PSV Eindhoven, bagging 40 goals and creating 23 assists in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have established themselves as front-runners in the race to sign Jadon Sancho before the start of next season, ahead of Frank Lampard’s Chelsea, but it is unclear if a potential move for Lozano would have an effect on an agreement with the England international.
While some members of the United faithful lauded the latest transfer update, others remain sceptical. One fan tweeted that the Napoli winger is “better than Dan James”. while another added “bye bye Jadon Sancho then.”
