Manchester United fans want the club to steer clear of signing Everton and England number one Jordan Pickford as a replacement for David de Gea, who continues to be linked with a move away from Old Trafford (The Athletic via Liverpool Echo).
Pickford has endured a weird last 12 months, ranging from the highs of England’s World Cup run to the lows of mistakes with Everton.
During the World Cup, Pickford turned out to be England’s hero during their penalty shoot-out win over Colombia in the round of 16 (via BBC).
However, the 25-year-old struggled during the league season with Everton last campaign making multiple mistakes.
The England number one infamously spilled the ball into the path of Liverpool striker Divock Origi during the dying moments of the Merseyside derby last December.
Pickford also made two mistakes during a 3-2 loss to Newcastle United towards the back end of last season. The first was when he gave away a penalty after a foul on Salomon Rondon. Later in the fixture, Pickford capped off a poor performance after he failed to push wide a strike from 30 yards from Miguel Almiron as Ayoze Perez slotted home.
It seems Manchester United fans have taken this into account, as they took to Twitter to voice their disapproval at the potential signing.
Here is a selection of tweets from the United faithful:
