Manchester United: Fans fume over official own-goal award to Tom Heaton

Back in early December, Manchester United played out a disappointing 2-2 draw with Premier League newcomers Aston Villa – with goals from Jack Grealish and Tyrone Mings cancelling out the home side’s efforts.

It was an afternoon to forget in the eyes of a Red Devils supporter, especially when their two most recent league games have been so impressive with results against Spurs and Man City, but some supporters have had to relive that afternoon following the news that Marcus Rashford has been officially denied their equalising goal at home to the Villans.

The decision was originally in favour of a Tom Heaton own-goal, but after an optimistic appeal to have that switched to a Rashford header, it was duly denied – prompting many supporters to protest the verdict themselves.

According to news from The Athletic (via Utd Report), the club had an argument that the ball was on target despite seemingly going in off Heaton – whilst also submitting clips from their own analyst’s cameras to prove it.

As a result, supporters have lashed out at the decision via Twitter:
