Jadon Sancho has admitted Wayne Rooney was his biggest inspiration growing up. Unsurprisingly, his latest comments have driven many Red Devils fans crazy with excitement.
Speaking to Micah Richards as part of his brand new ‘Micah Phones’ series via the Three Lions’ official Twitter account, Sancho revealed that the Manchester United legend was the player he most admired during his childhood.
The youngster commented: “Who did I look up to when I was young? I’d probably say Rooney. It’d have to be Rooney because he was doing madness at Manchester United, even at Everton when he made his debut”. He added: “he was too grown for everyone, at his age.”
After arriving at Signal Iduna Park from Manchester City for £7m back in 2017, Sancho has dazzled the crowds for Borussia Dortmund, scoring 14 goals and providing 15 assists in just 23 appearances in the Bundesliga under Lucien Favre this season (WhoScored).
The 20-year-old has already won 11 caps for Gareth Southgate’s national team, bagging two goals so far, and his heroics in the famous BVB jersey haven’t gone unnoticed.
Indeed, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are reportedly leading the race to sign the winger in the summer, ahead of Frank Lampard’s Chelsea, and there is no doubt Sancho’s thoughts on Rooney will have fuelled the eager United fan base.
Naturally, a whole host of Red Devils fans went wild over the “starboy’s” statement on social media, with one fan gleefully tweeting “Chelsea fans in the mud,” and another admiring Solskjaer’s “pull.”
