Manchester United: Fans laud Matteo Darmian’s claim about Marcus Rashford

Matteo Darmian has claimed Marcus Rashford can reach the levels of Kylian Mbappe and compete for the Ballon d’Or, according to The Guardian.

The former Red Devil went on to discuss his time at Manchester United, criticism of Paul Pogba, and life under lockdown in a wide-ranging interview with Fabrizio Romano. Speaking to the football journalist, Darmian said: “If he continues to work the way he has done so far he can be a Ballon d’Or winner. I’m convinced of this.

“He impressed me the most of all the players at United and he’s very young and can still improve. For me he can reach the level of Kylian Mbappé and compete for the Ballon d’Or for years to come.”

Rashford is the top scorer for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this season, scoring 19 goals in all competitions for the club until he suffered from a back injury before the Premier League was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In comparison, Mbappe has bagged 18 goals in just 20 appearances in Ligue 1 for Paris Saint-Germain in this campaign, prior to the French governing body’s decision to cancel the top two divisions at the end of last month (BBC Sport). Despite his young age, the 21-year-old has already won the World Cup, and it remains to be seen if his English counterpart can emulate some of his incredible feats so far.

Naturally, plenty of the Old Trafford faithful raved over the 30-year-old’s comments on Twitter, with one fan tweeting Rashford is “better than Mbappe”.
