Manchester United: Fans react as club close in on van de Beek signing

There has been an update on the possible transfer of Donny van de Beek to Manchester United and it’s safe to say that a lot of the Red Devils fan base are excited by the news.

According to @MikeVerweij in de telegraaf and tweeted out by utdreport, van de Beek will leave Ajax for United and will sign a five-year contract. The transfer fee is around €45m (£40.3m) including bonuses and the paperwork and medical is set to follow imminently.

It has been reported in the past that the Dutch international is a player that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would love to have in his midfield alongside Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.

This would really make the midfield trio a threat to all opposition defences, proven by the Dutchman’s stats as the 23-year-old had a very good season in 2019/20, managing to pick up 10 goals and 11 assists in all competitions whilst averaging 1.9 shots, 1.8 key passes and two tackles a game, per WhoScored – this shows that he can make a big impact all over the pitch.

Van de Beek’s statistics suggest that he is a well-rounded midfielder and he was part of the Ajax side that reached the Champions League semi-finals in the 2018/19 season, so United could have found themselves a very good player to try and help them challenge for the title next season.

Here is what fans said following the news:
