Manchester United have been in the hunt for a new centre-back, especially with it looking like Chris Smalling will be departing this transfer window.
However, the latest news tweeted out by Samuel Luckhurst could suggest they might not be looking for a defender now as academy prospect Teden Mengi has been promoted to the United first-team squad indefinitely.
The 18 year-old has made 49 appearances in the youth ranks at the club, per Transfermarkt, including in the UEFA Youth League, and clearly his performances at centre-back have been duly noted and rewarded with this promotion.
The club had been linked to Dayot Upamecano, and whilst most were very happy about the young star getting into the senior squad, one or two were also not too pleased with the news as they want the club to finalise more senior transfers.
The Red Devils have had great success recently with their academy, with Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood now key players, and hopefully Mengi can follow in their footsteps.

Absolutely love this… the club may be a shambles in the transfer market but we’re world class at bringing kids through the ranks.

Good news & great credit to Solskjaer who continues to trust the brilliant players coming through United’s system. This lad has a great chance of making it.
