Manchester United: Fans react to Red Devils’ interest in RB Leipzig defender

Many Manchester United fans have responded to the news that the Red Devils are considering a move for Dayot Upamecano, according to Sky Sports

It seems Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the market for a new centre-back, with the club facing a mass exodus of defensive options before the start of next season, and the report claims the Norwegian has identified the 21-year-old as a top priority.

The RB Leipzig defender is one of Europe’s hottest prospects and has firmly established himself as a first-choice pick in the starting lineup under Julian Nagelsmann. After arriving at the Red Bull Arena from RB Salzburg for £9m in January 2017, Upamecano has made 21 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, making 2.1 tackles per game, averaging a staggering 3.3 clearances, and notching 1.7 interceptions on average (WhoScored).

In contrast, Victor Lindelof has played in 26 games in the Premier League for Solskjaer’s side, registering just 0.9 tackles on average, achieving 3.5 clearances per game, and completing 0.7 interceptions up until now (WhoScored).

Understandably, the Frenchman’s performances at the back haven’t gone unnoticed, and Ed Woodward faces stiff competition from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the upcoming transfer window.

Popular fan site UtdReport re-posted the transfer update on social media, prompting lots of replies from the United faithful.

Predictably, plenty of supporters are delighted with the link to the “exciting prospect“, with one calling the youngster a “beast,” and another cheekily poked fun at the Swedish international.
