David de Gea has reportedly been given 12 months to save his career just days after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer defended the Manchester United keeper.
De Gea came under fire from Roy Keane as he couldn’t save Steven Bergwijn’s opening goal on Friday, which gave Tottenham the lead.
Solskjaer leapt to the goalkeeper’s defence and insisted he is still the best in the world.
However, the Norwegian now appears to have performed a dramatic U-turn, as reports have emerged the 29-year-old only has a year left to salvage his reputation at Old Trafford.
Who is Man United's best keeper?
David de Gea
Dean Henderson
According to ESPN, Solskjaer has now issued De Gea with an ultimatum. Although the club legend is willing to give him another chance, Man United believe Dean Henderson, who is currently on loan at Sheffield United, can become the first-choice keeper in the long-term.
The veteran has played 30 games in the Premier League this season, saving just eight clean sheets and conceding 31 goals (Transfermarkt).
If the Spaniard can correct his mistakes, he will keep his place in the side, but Henderson’s impressive performances for the Blades have given the board pause for thought.
Unsurprisingly, many United fans slammed the £36m-valued “liability” as the news emerged, with one fan sarcastically tweeting “another Woodward masterclass” for letting Henderson stay at Bramall Lane whilst handing De Gea a lucrative contract.

Calamity De gea

he’s costed us vital points last season and this season, he’s becoming a liability in goal which we really can’t afford

He’s got a few weeks more likely. Cost us top 4 again and Ole will have no choice but to go with Deano next season.

He’s been letting them in for 2 years now, but was still made the highest paid GK in the world and now no one will take him from us without the club waiving the transfer fee or subsidising his wages. Another Woodward masterclass. 👏🏻

I’d take the risk. Unfortunately De Gea has declined

Saw this coming!!!
with the emergence of Dean Henderson it’s obvious this is a bad time to accumulate mistakes in goal.— Alison KHRYS (@AlisonKhrys) June 24, 2020
