Raphael Varane is a popular man here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Metro seem to think that Manchester United are finally set to make their move for the Real Madrid man.
Both United and Chelsea have been strongly linked with Varane and as one of our punters notes over a pie and pint at the bar while looking ahead to United’s FA Cup tie with Arsenal, he would make a huge difference to any side he joined and United need him more than most.
Varane has never really seemed to convince Carlo Ancelotti that he is worth a place in his starting line up and we think that is a mistake from the Italian.
But, Real Madrid’s loss certainly looks like being United’s gain if this latest rumour is to be believed and we would advise United to pull their socks up and beat their rivals to the Frenchman.
