Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s impressive performance against Manchester City has earned plenty of high praise from fans and pundits alike, including Match of the Day regular Jermaine Jenas.
Speaking on Match of the Day via the Metro, Jenas said: “We know he’s good at defending but the one-vs-one battle between him and Sterling was something I was really looking forward to and it was something that Wan-Bissaka came out on top of during the game.”
The Manchester United defender got the better of City star Raheem Sterling throughout the 2-0 victory over their rivals, earning himself a high rating of 8. Wan-Bissaka made 2 clearances, 3 interceptions and 8 tackles during the game, including a great challenge on Gabriel Jesus in a last-ditched attempt to prevent a goal-scoring opportunity (SofaScore).
Jenas added: “It was a big tackle in a big moment during the game. What a performance.”
Solskjaer’s side achieved the club’s first league double against Manchester City in over a decade thanks to goals from Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay (Guardian).
Writing in The Times Paul Hirst suggested “the United right back is playing with confidence and is ready for England duty.”
Wan-Bissaka has earned 3 caps for the national team at under U21 level so far (Transfermarkt). With the Euros fast approaching, the 22-year-old is surely a contender to be in the senior squad off the back of his recent performances.
