Manchester United: Mason Greenwood reveals his football idols are Wayne Rooney and Ronaldo

Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has admitted club legend Wayne Rooney and Ronaldo are the footballers he admired the most when growing up.

The 18-year-old accepted a callout from popular FIFA streamer Castro1021 and appeared on a charity livestream with the YouTube sensation.

Speaking to the internet personality, Greenwood revealed “Rooney and Ronaldo” inspired him to play football.

He added the one player he would have liked to play with is the Brazilian megastar, saying “I would play with Ronaldo,” and marvelled at the legend’s stepovers.

After Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave him his debut last year, the United academy graduate has made 40 appearances for the Red Devils, netting 12 goals and providing 4 assists in all competitions. Although Greenwood has mostly appeared as a substitute in the Premier League this season, he has still scored 5 goals in the English top tier (Transfermarkt).

Predictably plenty of fans have taken to Twitter to post their views on the youngster’s football idols. Whilst some supporters were left confused by the England U-21 international’s comments on Ronaldo, another appreciated the fact the England U-21 international “stans Wazza.”
