Manchester United have endured a mixed opening to the new Premier League campaign, collecting one win, one draw and one defeat from their first three matches.
The Red Devils invested heavily in midfield during the summer, but Michael Carrick’s new-look unit will need time to settle. Their defensive problems have also remained apparent, with United conceding too many goals early in the campaign.
Rather than focusing solely on those issues, however, the club appear to be continuing their search for attacking talent.
Manchester United Make Contact For Mateus Mané
Manchester United have made direct contact with the representatives of Wolves winger Mateus Mané as they assess a potential move for the highly-rated teenager.
According to Football 360, United have already tested the waters regarding the 18-year-old, who is eligible to represent both Portugal and England and has impressed at youth international level.
Mané is regarded as one of the more exciting young talents in Europe and has attracted growing attention after breaking through at Molineux. Former Wolves boss Rob Edwards previously described him as a “very bright talent”.
United are not alone in their interest, with Liverpool also maintaining a long-standing admiration for the winger. The Reds explored the possibility of signing him permanently or completing a deal that would have seen him return to Wolves on loan.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham are among the other Premier League clubs keeping an eye on his development, but United have already taken the step of establishing contact.
Wolves are under little pressure to sell, with Mané contracted until 2029 and considered an important part of their long-term plans. His valuation is also understood to be considerably higher than the €20 million figure listed by Transfermarkt, with previous asking prices reportedly reaching £35-£50 million.
United could therefore face a significant battle if they decide to turn their initial interest into a formal offer.
