Manchester United face a crucial summer of rebuilding after a catastrophic 2024/25 campaign that saw them finish 15th in the Premier League — their worst-ever league position — and suffer a painful defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, ending the season without any silverware or consolation.

While reinforcing the goalkeeper position and shoring up the defence are urgent priorities, the most glaring issue lies in their attacking options. The club’s frontline has failed to deliver all season, forcing urgent changes.

Joshua Zirkzee, signed from Bologna with high hopes, struggled to find form and failed to make a meaningful impact. Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho, despite showing glimpses of promise, is reportedly on his way out, further thinning United’s attacking ranks.

But the biggest disappointment has been Rasmus Højlund, the £72 million signing expected to spearhead the attack. Højlund managed just four Premier League goals throughout the season, a tally that fell far short of expectations.

His lack of consistent threat in front of goal has left fans and management frustrated, and now he too is reportedly set to depart — possibly on loan — with Serie A heavyweights Napoli and Inter Milan showing interest.

With Højlund currently the only recognized out-and-out striker in the squad, United urgently need to bring in a proven goal scorer to lead the line. The club has reportedly set their sights on a key target to fill the striker void and reignite their attacking firepower: Tolu Arokodare.

According to a recent report from The Sun, Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Genk and Nigeria striker Tolu Arokodare.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season last term, netting 23 goals in all competitions for Genk and finishing as the joint top scorer in the Belgian Pro League. His performances have earned widespread praise, including from Belgium international and Royal Antwerp defender Toby Alderweireld, who described him as “one of the best strikers in Belgium.”

The Sun also reports that Arokodare, considered one of Europe’s rising stars, is keen on making the jump to the Premier League. Sources close to the player have told SunSport that he is eager to secure a move to England.

AC Milan and Fulham have also shown interest, with Fulham reportedly holding exploratory talks with the former FC Köln striker’s representatives after a recent agency switch aimed at facilitating a Premier League transfer.

Standing at an imposing 6’4”, Arokodare offers a commanding presence in the box, combined with the pace and clinical finishing to trouble any defense.

While signing a player from a smaller league always carries some risk, United’s need for a reliable goal scorer is urgent — and frankly, anything that offers more promise than Højlund deserves serious consideration.
