Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are delighted to hear in the Express that Angel Di Maria is trying to persuade Louis van Gaal to fork out £30m to sign Benfica midfielder Nicolas Gaitan.
The two players know one another very well from playing together for Argentina and it is reported that Di Maria is trying to force through the deal, which was so close to happening last summer.
Gaitan was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer but ended up signing a new contract in November.
The 26-year-old was initially brought in as Di Maria’s replacement at Benfica after he moved to Real Madrid.
United’s current star passionately believes that his compatriot is exactly what they need to complete their midfield.
And a transfer is very possible after a £30m release clause was included in his new deal.
Liverpool, Tottenhamm, Monaco and Valencia have all been interested in the past but if Manchester United meet the release clause, Gaitan would be quick to link up with his fellow Argentinian at the Theatre of Dreams.
