Odion Ighalo’s double against Derby County in the FA Cup fifth round has many Manchester United fans purring.
The 30-year-old scored two goals to seal United’s spot in the quarter-final against Norwich City at Carrow Road later this month (BBC). Quite a few eyebrows were raised when Ighalo moved to Old Trafford on a surprising loan during the January transfer window, but Solskjaer’s faith in the Nigerian striker certainly seems to be paying off so far.
Stepping in to fill the goal-scoring boots of injured academy ace Marcus Rashford, the Shanghai Shenhua loan signing has made 6 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 3 goals in all competitions (Transfermarkt). Despite a solid Premier League record including 40 goals in 100 games for Watford, Ighalo’s current market value rests at just £5.85m (Transfermarkt).
Most supporters will be hoping Ighalo can keep his goal-scoring form up for the rest of the season as United find themselves in the hunt for Champions League football, Europa League and FA Cup glory.
