Manchester United: Red Devils fans react to Marcus Rashford’s opinion on Wayne Rooney

Loads of Manchester United supporters reacted to a tweet from the club’s official Twitter account sharing Marcus Rashford’s thoughts on playing alongside his ‘hero’ Wayne Rooney.

The Red Devils re-posted comments the striker made during a fan Q&A with Jake Humphrey and club legend Rio Ferdinand earlier in April (Daily Mail).

Speaking to the BT Sports pundits, Rashford revealed Rooney is his favourite United player ever.

“I’d probably say Wazza – he has obviously been a massive part of my development and it was just a dream come true to play with him on the pitch after watching him for so many years.”

The academy product has scored 14 goals in just 22 appearances for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in the English top flight this season, averaging 3.4 shots per game, registering 1.1 key passes on average, and completing at least 2 dribbles per match (WhoScored). The 22-year-old’s market value is priced at £72m via Transfermarkt.

In contrast, after arriving at Old Trafford from Everton for a reported fee worth £33m in the summer of 2004, Rooney bagged 253 goals in 559 games in all competitions for United, winning the Premier League five times, and lifting the coveted Champions League trophy (Transfermarkt).

While it remains to be seen if Rashford can hit the same heights as United’s record goalscorer, the starlet has certainly got off to the right start.

Predictably, plenty of fans fawned over Rashford’s opinion on social media, with one calling Rooney a “legend” and another adding the former England international is “my hero.”
