Manchester United: Red Devils fans reflect on Wayne Rooney’s incredible career

Lots of Manchester United fans have been reminiscing about Wayne Rooney’s incredible career, after the 34-year-old opened up about his ridiculous feats in a Red Devils jersey in an interview with The Times.

Writing in his regular column, Rooney commented: “this might surprise you, but I’m not a natural goalscorer. I was never a Gary Lineker or a Ruud van Nistelrooy.

“I hold the goal records for Manchester United and England and I’m very proud about that – yet there have been better number nines than me.

“How did I become a record-breaker if I wasn’t a natural scorer? Time.”

The veteran concluded: “I played for United for 13 years, England for 15 years. I had time to break those records – and looking back I should have scored more.”

United’s all-time top goalscorer made 559 appearances in total, scoring a remarkable tally of 253 goals and producing 146 assists overall. Rooney won the Premier League five times, lifted the coveted Champions League trophy, and picked up the Europa League, the FA Cup, and 4 League Cups during his 13-year-stint with the club (Transfermarkt).

After leaving Old Trafford in 2017 in a return to his boyhood club Everton, the former England international has become a bit of a nomad in recent years, as he enjoyed a spell in America with MLS side DC United, before moving to Derby County last summer. He has played in 15 games for the Rams this season, netting 3 goals and creating 2 assists as well (via WhoScored).

Unsurprisingly, a large portion of the fan base still have lots of fond memories about the club “legend”, with one supporter dubbing him “world class,” and another adding he is a “true team player.”

Rooney played behind every striker and still made his mark. The only season he played as a striker, he had injury and still scored 20+ in the epl. What a man.
