Manchester United set to lose out on deal to sign defender

vangaaaalManchester United fans have been dealt a blow before the January window after reports in the Mirror claim transfer target Kamil Glik is ready to sign a new contract at current club Torino.

The Red Devils were linked with a host of centre backs in the summer window but were known to have been tracking the Poland international closely after a fantastic season in the Serie A, and were believed to have been looking to sign him in January.

But with the defender set to sign a new contract it could put an end to any potential interest in the player.

Glik joined Torino, who were then in Serie B, from Galatasary in 2011 for a fee of around 300,000 euros.

He has since seen them promoted to the to flight and establish themselves in Italy’s top league. The defender was also on Real Madrid’s books once upon a time, playing for their C side.

Louis Van Gaal had already signed Glik’s former teammate Matteo Darmian earlier in the summer window and it is understandable that Torino did not want to lose two of their back for such a short space of time.

Our resident United punters here in the Tavern admit they just want to sign someone like Mats Hummels, and not a virtually unknown player!

United fans, do you think you should still go back for Glik? Let us know what you think in the comments section below!
