Punters are looking up at the latest claim from The Guardian here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The publication report that Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has not only claimed that he will be carrying on with his footballing career at the end of the season, but that he wants to stay at the Old Trafford club.
As one of our punters points out over a beer, that may not have been the case if David Moyes was still at the helm, but now the Scot has received his marching orders, Rio wants to be handed a new contract.
He claimed: “I’m going to continue playing. Whether it’s here, I don’t know. But I hope so.”
As our landlord moves over to the pool table, he informs us that he does not think that Rio is deserving of a new deal, especially given his form over the last season, not to mention his injury problems.
The majority of our punters agree, and given that it will be another summer of change at Old Trafford, we think that it is the ideal time for the old guard to exit and new faces to come in and show what they can do. This will be key in getting the club back on track and challenging for titles again.
