Manchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking impressed at the news that defender Rio Ferdinand has finally signed a new deal according to Caught Offside.
The website claim that the defender who joined United all the way back in 2002 from Leeds United in a mega deal has put pen to paper on an extension – something that we were discussing only last week here in the tavern. As one of our punters quips, it is about time both the club and the player himself put the rumours of a departure to bed and committed to each other and now Rio has been speaking about ending his career at Old Trafford.
The defender claimed that: “Who wouldn’t want to play in this fantastic team in front of 75,000 fans each week? It has been an incredible journey and I am glad it will continue.
“I can now fully concentrate on my club career, which has worked well for me over the past few years. This is a great team to be part of and we are now moving into a new era with the club, which is very exciting.”
He also spoke about his excitement at working under David Moyes and his anticipation for the new season.
