Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are pleased to hear their boss is interested in English talent after The Mirror revealed that Louis van Gaal is renewing his interest in Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne.
Manchester United tried signing the England international right back in 2012 but ultimately missed out on him to the Saints but he has impressed further since and is still one of their top transfer targets.
Something that is missing in United’s line-up right now is a top quality right back with many seeing Clyne as an upgrade on Rafael and Antonio Valencia.
The 23-year-old would suit van Gaal’s preferred style of football as he has no fear going forward but also has the athleticism to get back and defend sufficiently.
The Saints full back is beginning to get more and more established in the England set up and this will attract the Red Devils even more.
But he only has 18 months left on his contract and Southampton are desperate to tie him up on a new deal.
If Ronald Koeman’s side can get him to sign a new contract, then they will have to make the decision on whether to cash in on him or not.
