Manchester United’s predicted XI for 2020/2021

With Manchester United enjoying a decent season, Champions League qualification is within their grasp. The Red Devils sit just three points off fourth-placed Chelsea and are cruising in their Europa League last-16 tie against LASK.

However, what would their starting XI look like should they can reach Europe’s premier competition next season?

Well, David de Gea signed a new long-term contract way back at the start of the season, so you’d imagine he’d be in the side barring any disaster. And with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw having formed a defence which has conceded the fourth-least number of goals in the Premier League, the back-four is perfectly fine.

Meanwhile, in midfield, Paul Pogba seems likely to remain at the club after it emerged the north-west club have doubts over Real Madrid and Juventus’ ability to pursue a deal (via ESPN). Should that be true the £90m-rated, as per Transfermarkt, ace would take a central midfield spot alongside Bruno Fernandes, who has been superb since he joined in the January transfer window.

It’s the third spot in the centre of the pitch that proves difficult to pick with both Fred and Scott McTominay having performed admirably. However, the Brazil international possesses a higher pass accuracy, has made more tackles and more interceptions per game than the Scotsman and therefore nicks the place, as per WhoScored.

Is Jadon Sancho definitely coming to Manchester United in 2020?

Two of the front three are easy to pick. Marcus Rashford was amazing after he was shifted out to the left-wing to make room for Anthony Martial in the number nine spot. The England international has contributed to 19 goals in just 19 games across all competitions from the wide position and would take up that spot. Meanwhile, the Frenchman has been a sensational finisher and has notched up 16 goals in just 32 games in the centre-forward position.

The only position on the pitch where the Old Trafford giants would need to recruit someone is on the right-wing. Daniel James started off on fire when he first joined the club; however, he hasn’t scored in the top-flight since the draw away to Southampton at the start of the campaign . With that in mind, there’s only one player who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have really been linked with that can replace the Welshman and that’s Jadon Sancho. 31 goals and 42 assists across just 90 games for Borussia Dortmund shows you he may just be one of the best players in the world despite being just 20-years-old.

Ultimately, the majority of the XI should remain the same, with the outfit having done the double over the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.
